"Eyes Wide Open" - CDTRAX 255

HARRIET BARTLETT, from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, has been playing the piano accordion for 8 years, adding vocals to her performance over the past two years. Originally classically trained on accordion, Harriet moved into folk because of her love of Celtic music. Harriet feels privileged to have had lessons and taken part in workshops with a number of accordion greats, including Karen Tweed, Phil Cunningham and Ian Lowthian but has gone on to develop her own style.

Winner of the coveted 'Danny Kyle Award' at Celtic Connections 2003 and the 'In The Tradition' Awards 2001, discussions began early in 2003 between Harriet and Greentrax Recordings and "Eyes Wide Open" was recorded in Glasgow in September under the guiding hand of producer Phil Cunningham, MBE.

In addition to producing, Phil also played piano, cittern and whistle, while Ed Boyd played guitar and Mark Maguire added bodhran. The album consists of four songs and eight instrumental tracks. Several of the tunes are composed by Harriet.

Late in 2003 Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham invited Harriet to support them on a concert performance in Blairgowrie. Aly and Phil jointly wrote of Harriet's album: -

"Harriet has assembled here a fine collection of tunes, some traditional, some contemporary and some of her own compositions, all of them played with grace and dexterity. She is composing with a maturity far beyond her years and if this is her first outing on CD, we cannot wait to hear the next."

Greentrax is proud to introduce this young talent to a wider audience.
